Equipment
Method
Prepare Glass
Add Ice
Fill a 12–16 oz cup about two-thirds full with ice cubes (approximately 1 cup).
Pour Soda
Add Syrup
Measure 2 fl oz of fountain soda syrup (or one standard pump setting if using a dispenser set to ~2 fl oz) and pour it directly over the ice in the cup.
Add Carbonation
Slowly pour or dispense 16 fl oz of cold carbonated water (club soda or seltzer) into the cup over the back of a spoon or down the side to preserve carbonation and reduce foaming. Leave a small 1/2 inch of headroom at the top of the cup.
Finish & Serve
Combine
Gently stir the mixture with a stirrer or straw 1–2 times to combine the syrup and carbonated water without flattening the drink.
Garnish (Optional)
If desired, add a lemon or lime wedge on the rim or drop a maraschino cherry in the cup for visual appeal and subtle flavor. Serve immediately with a straw.
