Base & Milk

Method

Base & Milk

1

Prepare milk

Chill the whole milk in the refrigerator until cold. If you want a richer drink, stir the heavy cream into the milk. Reserve the optional thinning milk (0.25 cup) in the fridge in case the blended mixture is too thick.

Banana Flavor Preparation

2

Blend banana milk

Place the sliced ripe banana, 1 cup of the chilled whole milk, 1 teaspoon of the granulated sugar (or 1 teaspoon simple syrup), 0.125 tsp vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and 1 tablespoon banana syrup or puree (if using) into a blender. Blend on high until completely smooth, about 30–45 seconds. Taste and adjust sweetness; add up to 1 additional teaspoon sugar or 1 tablespoon banana syrup if you prefer stronger flavor. If the mixture is too thick, add up to 2 tablespoons (0.125 cup) reserved milk and pulse to combine.

3

Strain (optional)

If you prefer an ultra-smooth milk without fibrous banana bits, pour the blended banana milk through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.

4

Serve banana milk

Fill a serving glass with crushed ice if desired. Pour the banana milk into the glass. Top with a dollop of whipped cream and garnish with a banana slice. Serve immediately.

Strawberry Flavor Preparation

5

Prepare strawberries

If using fresh strawberries, hull and slice them. For a sweeter/firmer strawberry flavor, macerate sliced strawberries with 1 teaspoon sugar for 5–10 minutes to draw out juices before blending. Alternatively use store-bought strawberry jam or syrup.

6

Blend strawberry milk

Place the hulled sliced strawberries (3 oz), 1 cup chilled whole milk, 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (or 1 teaspoon simple syrup), 0.125 tsp vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and 1.5 tablespoons strawberry jam or syrup (if using) into a blender. Blend on high until smooth, about 30–45 seconds. Taste and adjust sweetness or strawberry intensity by adding up to 1 additional teaspoon sugar or another 0.5 tablespoon jam/syrup. If the mixture is too thick, add up to 2 tablespoons (0.125 cup) reserved milk and pulse briefly.

7

Strain (optional)

For an ultra-smooth texture, strain the blended strawberry milk through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher to remove seeds and pulp.

8

Serve strawberry milk

Fill a serving glass with crushed ice if desired. Pour the strawberry milk into the glass. Top with whipped cream and garnish with a strawberry slice. Serve immediately.

Final Adjustments & Storage

9

Taste the prepared flavored milk and adjust: add a little more sugar, a splash of vanilla, or a tablespoon more fruit syrup/puree to intensify flavor. If making ahead, store the flavored milk in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours; shake or stir well before serving because separation may occur.
