Whole Milk (Pantry / Refrigerator)

Serving (optional)

Method

Basic Milk (serve chilled or warm)

  1. 1

    Serve chilled

Pour 4 cups of whole milk from the refrigerator into a clean pitcher or individual glasses. If you like slightly sweeter milk, stir in 1 teaspoon of honey or sugar and a pinch (1/4 tsp) of salt until dissolved. Chill in the refrigerator until cold if not already. Serve plain or with ice cubes as desired.

  2. 2

    Serve warm

Pour 4 cups of whole milk into a small saucepan. Warm over low to medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the milk reaches 120–140°F (warm but not simmering) — about 5–7 minutes. Remove from heat. If desired, stir in 1 teaspoon honey or sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt until dissolved. Serve immediately in mugs.

Vanilla milk

  1. 3

Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract to the 4 cups of milk after pouring into the serving pitcher or after warming. Stir gently to combine. Taste and adjust vanilla or sweetener to preference.

Chocolate milk

  1. 4

To make smooth chocolate milk, combine 2 tablespoons cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon cold water in a small bowl to form a paste. Mix until lump-free. Add the paste to 4 cups of milk and whisk or shake in a sealed container until evenly combined. If desired, add 1 teaspoon sugar or honey while mixing. Serve chilled or over ice.

Finishing & Serving

  1. 5

Optional: sprinkle a light dusting of ground cinnamon on top of vanilla or warm milk. For cold drinks, add ice cubes if desired. Store any leftover plain milk in a sealed container in the refrigerator and consume within 3–4 days or by the milk's use-by date.
