Chitosan solution (water‑soluble)

Method

Chitosan solution (water‑soluble)

1

Dissolve chitosan

Warm 10 ml distilled water to about 35–40°C. Sprinkle 2 g chitosan oligosaccharide into the warm water while stirring to avoid clumps. Stir continuously with a small whisk or spatula until fully dissolved and the solution is clear or slightly opalescent (about 1–3 minutes). Set aside at room temperature while you prepare the other phases so the solution cools to ~25–30°C.

Aqueous phase

2

Combine liquid actives

In a clean mixing bowl, pour 60 ml distilled water. Add 4 ml glycerin, 6 ml aloe vera gel, 1 ml panthenol and 2 ml chamomile hydrosol. Whisk gently until a uniform liquid is formed. Once the chitosan solution has cooled to ~25–30°C, pour it into this aqueous mix and stir until homogeneous. This combined aqueous phase should be smooth and slightly viscous.

Powder phase

3

Prepare powders

Sift or gently mix together 12 g sodium alginate, 1.2 g calcium sulfate dihydrate and 1 g kaolin clay in a dry bowl to remove lumps and ensure even distribution. Sifting the alginate reduces lumps when it meets liquid.

Mixing & Application

4

Combine powders into liquids

With the aqueous+chitosan solution in your mixing bowl, slowly sprinkle the sifted powder mixture into the liquids while whisking constantly (do not dump powders in at once). Add powders in a thin, steady stream and whisk to a smooth, lump‑free paste. Expect a thick, creamy paste — target a spreadable paste about 3–4 mm thick when applied (adjust slightly with up to 3–5 ml extra distilled water if too stiff, or a pinch (0.2–0.5 g) additional alginate if too runny). Total mixing/hydration time after powders are fully added: 2–4 minutes. Let the paste rest 2–3 minutes to fully hydrate; whisk once after resting to remove any small bubbles.

5

Application

Cleanse and lightly tone the face; skin must be oil‑free. Using a disposable spatula or brush, apply an even layer of mask ~3–4 mm thick, starting from the forehead and moving down — avoid the eye area, eyebrows, nostrils and lips. Work quickly: alginate masks begin to set when calcium interacts with alginate, so aim to finish application in 3–5 minutes. For extra comfort, apply a thinner layer over the delicate eye/cheek area and a slightly thicker layer on the jawline and neck if desired.

6

Setting time

Allow the mask to set for 10–15 minutes. You will feel the mask firm and become rubbery; the surface may feel cool and slightly tightened but not painful. If the mask is still tacky after 15 minutes, allow an extra 3–5 minutes.

7

Removal and aftercare

Gently lift an edge (start at bottom jaw) and peel the mask off in one piece. If any residue remains, rinse with lukewarm water and pat skin dry. Follow with a soothing serum or light moisturizer (fragrance‑free). Single‑use: discard any remaining mixed mask. If you plan to store leftovers (not recommended), transfer to a sterile container and refrigerate and use within 24 hours with a preservative — ideally avoid storing.
