Method

Sandwich

1

Prepare bread

Lay two slices of bread flat on a clean cutting board or plate, side by side with the interior faces up.

2

Spread peanut butter

Using a butter knife, scoop about 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and spread it evenly over the surface of one bread slice, covering to within about 1/4 inch of the edge to avoid spillage. For young children, use the back of the spoon to create a thin, even layer if preferred.

3

Spread jelly

Using a clean knife or spoon, scoop about 2 tablespoons of jelly and spread it evenly across the other slice of bread, again leaving a small edge to reduce mess.

4

Assemble sandwich

Place the peanut-butter-covered slice on top of the jelly-covered slice with the spreads facing each other. Press gently to adhere.

5

Optional: Trim & cut

If desired, use a butter knife or child-safe knife to trim off crusts. Then cut the sandwich in half diagonally or into fun shapes (squares, stars with a cookie cutter) to make it easier for kids to eat.

6

Optional: Toasted version

If you prefer a warm sandwich, spread 1 tsp butter on the outside faces of both bread slices before assembling (or after assembling, spread on the outside). Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and toast the sandwich 2–3 minutes per side until golden and warm, pressing gently with a spatula. Remove and let cool a minute before serving to a child.

Arrange banana slices or apple slices/carrots on the plate alongside the sandwich for a balanced snack. Include a napkin for easy cleanup.
