Base

Method

Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the correct temperature for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a separate bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and remaining granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet Ingredients

Add the milk, vanilla extract, and eggs to the butter mixture, and mix until fully incorporated.

  5. 5

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  6. 6

    Bake the Base

Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch round cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Base

Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Topping Preparation

  1. 8

    Whip Cream

In a large mixing bowl, add the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, whip until soft peaks form.

  2. 9

    Prepare the Berries

Wash and gently pat dry the fresh berries. You can slice the strawberries if they are large.

  3. 10

    Assemble the Dessert

Once the base is cooled, spread the whipped cream evenly over the top of the cake. Decorate with fresh berries on top.

  4. 11

    Serve

Slice the cake into wedges and serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.
