If stored cool (cellar or fridge), remove the bottle and rest at serving temperature for 10–15 minutes. If overly chilled (wine refrigerator at 50°F/10°C or below), let it warm for 10–20 minutes to reach an ideal Pinot Noir serving temperature of about 55–60°F (13–16°C). If stored at room temperature and warm, chill in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes.

Chill or rest wine

Using a corkscrew, remove the cork cleanly. Inspect the wine briefly for clarity and cork condition. Wipe the bottle lip with a clean cloth or napkin.

Open bottle

For a very young or tightly wound Pinot Noir, pour the wine slowly into a decanter to allow gentle aeration for 15–30 minutes. For typical ready-to-drink 2022 Pinot Noir, decanting 10–15 minutes can open aromas of plum and black cherry; otherwise pour directly into glasses.

Decant (optional)

Pour about 4–6 ounces (120–180 ml) of wine per glass, filling to the widest part of the bowl so aromas concentrate. For four glasses from one standard 750 ml bottle, pour approximately 5.5 ounces (165 ml) each.

Pour

Present glasses at table. Suggest tasting notes verbally or on a menu card: bright plum and black cherry, light-to-medium body, soft tannins, restrained oak. Encourage guests to swirl once or twice to release aromatics and inhale gently before sipping.

Serve

Rinse glasses briefly with room-temperature water and wipe dry to ensure no residual odors. Arrange 2–3 plain crackers or thin slices of a mild cheese per guest on a small plate. If using fresh fruit, slice plums thinly or pit black cherries and place one or two pieces on each plate as tasting accents.

Prepare glasses and pairings

Guide guests to observe color at the rim (lighter ruby), swirl to release aromas of plum and black cherry, then take a small sip and let it coat the palate. Note brightness of fruit, acidity, and finish. Offer additional pours as desired.

Tasting procedure

If the bottle isn't finished, re-cork it (use original cork or wine stopper) and refrigerate upright. Consume within 3–5 days for best flavor; allow a few minutes to warm to serving temperature before re-serving.
