Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you mix the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass, add Whitley Neill Gin (1 oz), Lillet Blanc (1 oz), Dolin Blanc vermouth (1/2 oz), Yellow Chartreuse (1/4 oz), and 1 dash of orange bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with 6 large ice cubes. Stir gently and continuously for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted—glass should develop light frost.

  4. 4

    Prepare serving glass

Discard the chilling ice/water from the rocks glass and add a single large ice cube or sphere to the glass.

  5. 5

    Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, double-strain (if desired through a fine mesh) the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube.

  6. 6

    Express and garnish

Take a lemon twist (or orange twist), give it a firm squeeze over the drink to express the oils, rub the rim of the glass with the peel, then drop the twist into the drink as garnish.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the herbal lift of the Chartreuse and floral/citrus notes from the Lillet and vermouth.
