Measure and combine
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz gin, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes of orange bitters.
- 3
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with approximately 1 cup of fresh ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and the ingredients are well diluted and integrated.
- 4
Prepare glass
If you chilled the glass with ice water, discard the ice water now. If using a large clear ice cube in an old-fashioned glass, place that cube in the glass now; otherwise, use the chilled coupe or Martini glass from the freezer.
- 5
Strain and garnish
Double-strain the cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer into the chilled glass (or over the large ice cube). Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, run it around the rim, then drop it into the glass as garnish.
- 6
Serve
Serve immediately while cold. Enjoy the balanced floral-citrus Sterling.
