Cocktail Base

Method

Cocktail Preparation

  1. 1

Make honey syrup (if not ready)

Combine equal parts honey and hot water (for this recipe 0.5 oz honey + 0.5 oz hot water) and stir until fully combined. Cool to room temperature before using. Yield: ~1 oz.

  2. 2

Add 2 oz aged bourbon, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz honey syrup, 0.5 oz fresh orange juice, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker.

  3. 3

Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.

  4. 4

Place a large clear ice cube into a chilled old-fashioned or rocks glass.

  5. 5

Double-strain the cocktail from the shaker into the glass over the large ice cube to remove small ice shards and any pulp.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 6

Express the orange twist over the drink: hold the twist skin-side down about 2–3 inches above the glass and give it a quick squeeze to spray the oils onto the surface.

  2. 7

Rub the expressed twist along the rim of the glass and either drop it into the drink or rest it on the ice. Optionally, perch a dehydrated orange wheel on the rim for presentation.

  3. 8

    Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly.
