Hurricane Cocktail
Method
Hurricane Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass
Fill a large hurricane glass (or large goblet) with crushed or cracked ice to chill while you assemble the cocktail.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a shaker filled halfway with ice, pour 2 oz light rum, 1 oz dark rum, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 1 oz passion fruit syrup (or passion fruit puree plus simple syrup), 0.5 oz simple syrup (adjust to taste), 1 oz orange juice, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
- 3
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosty.
- 4
- 5
Float overproof rum (optional)
Carefully pour 0.25 oz overproof rum over the back of a spoon so it floats on top of the drink. This step is optional but traditional for added aroma and show.
- 6
Garnish and finish
Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry on a cocktail pick. Optionally add a straw and serve immediately with a napkin or coaster.
- 7
Taste adjustment
If the cocktail is too tart, add small increments (0.25 oz) of simple syrup and stir gently. If too sweet, add a few drops of fresh lime juice.
