Blue Lagoon Cocktail

Method

Blue Lagoon Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a highball or Collins glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail. If using ice water, dump it before assembling the drink.

  2. 2

    Build and shake

Add 2 oz vodka, 1 oz blue curaçao, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 1 oz fresh pineapple juice into a cocktail shaker. Add a generous handful of ice (about 4–6 large cubes). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and slightly frosted.

  3. 3

    Prepare glass with ice

Fill the chilled highball glass about three-quarters full with crushed ice (about 1 cup).

  4. 4

    Strain and top

Strain the shaken mixture over the crushed ice in the glass. Gently pour 2 oz club soda (or lemon-lime soda for a sweeter version) over the top to give the drink effervescence. Do not stir vigorously — a gentle lift with a bar spoon once or twice is enough to marry the soda with the cocktail without losing carbonation.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lemon wheel on the rim and a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately with a straw and optional small cocktail umbrella for a tropical presentation.
