Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Place a coupe or chilled martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you mix the drink to chill it.

2

Build and chill

Fill a mixing glass or cocktail shaker with the stirring ice. Add 2 oz Russian Standard vodka, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, and 2 dashes of orange bitters.

3

Stir

Stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full stir strokes) until well chilled and slightly diluted. If you used a shaker, pour the contents into a mixing glass and stir; do not shake, to keep the drink clear.

4

Strain & garnish

Discard the ice or water from the chilled serving glass. Double-strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or martini glass. Express the lemon twist over the drink by pinching the peel skin-side down to release oils, then rub the rim with the twist and drop it in as garnish.

Optional

If you prefer an on-the-rocks version, fill an old-fashioned glass with fresh ice and strain the drink over the ice instead of using a chilled stemmed glass.
