Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare simple syrup (if not using ready-made)

Combine equal parts granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan (for example 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water). Heat gently, stirring until the sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Store refrigerated in a sealed jar for up to 2 weeks.

2

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

3

Add 2 oz Monkey Shoulder, 0.5 oz simple syrup, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters to the shaker.

4

Shake vigorously for about 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is very cold.

5

Strain the cocktail into a chilled old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube or into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.

6

Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by holding the peel over the glass and giving it a firm twist, then rub the peel on the rim and drop it into the glass as garnish.

7

Serve immediately.
