Method
Prepare glass
Mix coffee and whiskey
Pour the hot brewed coffee (1 cup) into the warmed glass, leaving about 1/2 inch (1 cm) of headspace for cream. Add the packed brown sugar (1 tsp) and stir until fully dissolved.
Add the Irish whiskey (1.5 oz) to the sweetened coffee and stir gently to combine.
Prepare cream
In a small chilled bowl, lightly whip the heavy cream (2 tbsp) just until it thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon. If you prefer a touch of sweetness, whisk in the powdered sugar (1/2 tsp). Do not overwhip — the cream should be pourable and soft, not stiff.
Assemble & serve
Hold a spoon upside down over the hot coffee surface (curved side up, tip just above the liquid) and gently pour the lightly whipped cream over the back of the spoon so it floats on top of the coffee, forming a distinct cream layer.
Optionally, lightly dust the cream with a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg or cocoa powder (about 1/4 tsp) for aroma and presentation.
Serve immediately while the coffee is hot and the cream remains layered on top.
