Cooking Instructions
Prepare the Sausage
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the homemade Italian sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat and set aside.
Mix the Ricotta Filling
In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, chopped basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until smooth.
Assemble the Lasagna
In a baking dish, spread a layer of tomato sauce on the bottom. Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by half of the cooked sausage and a layer of shredded mozzarella. Repeat the layers with another set of noodles, ricotta, sausage, and mozzarella.
Top with Sauce and Cheese
Finish with a final layer of noodles, the remaining tomato sauce, and top with sliced fresh mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
Bake the Lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
Serve
Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve warm.
