Cocktail

1

Chill glass and prepare ice

Place the rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice and water to chill while you mix. If using large ice cubes or an ice sphere, have them ready.

2

Combine spirits

In a mixing glass filled about two-thirds with fresh ice, pour 1 oz gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz Carpano Antica sweet vermouth.

3

Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture for about 20–30 seconds (roughly 20–25 full strokes) until well chilled and slightly diluted — the glass should feel very cold.

4

Prepare glass

Discard the ice/water from the chilled rocks glass if you used it to chill. Add 1–2 large ice cubes (or one ice sphere) to the glass.

5

Strain and top

Strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice. Gently top with about 1 oz soda water to taste — enough to give a light effervescence without diluting the classic balance too much.

6

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel by holding it over the glass, skin-side down, and giving it a quick pinch so the oils spray onto the surface. Rub the peel around the rim if desired, then drop the peel into the drink as garnish.

7

Serve

Serve immediately on the rocks with a short straw or without. Advise drinkers to sip and enjoy the bitter-sweet balance.

Optional / Tools

8

Use a mixing glass and bar spoon for proper chilling and dilution. A Hawthorne strainer or julep strainer will help when pouring from the mixing glass. A peeler or sharp knife makes a clean orange twist.
