Method
Glass wash & garnish
Wash the glass
Place two Luxardo cherries in the base of a chilled martini or coupe glass. Spoon 1/2 teaspoon of Luxardo cherry syrup over the cherries and swirl gently to coat the inside bottom and lower sides of the glass. Discard any excess syrup or leave lightly coating the glass for a dark cherry finish.
Prepare garnish
Cut an orange twist by peeling a 1/2-inch wide strip of orange zest and twisting it to release oils. Set aside with one Luxardo cherry skewered or dropped in the glass for garnish.
Cocktail
Chill the shaker and ingredients
Fill a cocktail shaker with 6 ice cubes to chill the shaker for about 10–15 seconds, then discard the melt water and keep the ice in the shaker for shaking.
Combine and shake
Add 2.5 oz Western Son Prickly Pear Vodka, 1.0 oz fresh orange juice, and 0.25 oz Luxardo cherry liqueur (or syrup) to the shaker with the ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and lightly frosted.
Strain & finish
Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared Luxardo-washed martini glass to leave the cherries in the bottom. This yields a deep orange martini with a dark cherry finish.
Garnish & serve
Drop the reserved Luxardo cherry into the drink or skewer it and rest on the rim. Express the orange twist over the drink to release oils, run it around the rim, and drop it in or place on the rim. Serve immediately.
