Decaf coffee beverage
Method
Decaf coffee beverage
Heat water
Heat 4 oz of water to 195–205°F (90–96°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 30 seconds.
Prepare coffee
Place 1 teaspoon of decaffeinated ground coffee into a small pour-over filter, single-serve drip basket, or an espresso basket depending on your equipment. If using instant decaf coffee instead of ground coffee, skip to the 'Brew' step and use 1 tsp instant mixed directly with hot water.
Bloom (for pour-over or immersion)
If using pour-over or immersion methods, pour about 1 teaspoon (approx. 5 ml) of the heated water over the grounds to wet them evenly and let sit 15–30 seconds to degas.
Brew/Extract
Slowly pour or allow the remaining hot water to pass through the grounds so that a total of 4 oz of brewed coffee collects in your cup or vessel. For drip/automatic machines, measure 4 oz of brewed coffee. For espresso machines, pull a short shot equating roughly to 1–1.5 oz and top with additional hot water to reach 4 oz.
Sweeten
Stir in 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar while the coffee is hot until dissolved. Adjust to taste if desired.
Serve
Taste and adjust sweetness or milk. Serve immediately in a pre-warmed 4–6 oz cup. This yields approximately a 4 oz beverage with about 45 kcal.
