Egg & Seasoning

Protein or Fruit Choice (choose two)

Method

Prepare Protein or Fruit

  1. 1

If serving bacon (raw): preheat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Place strips in a single layer and cook 3–4 minutes per side for medium crispness, adjusting time for thickness. Drain on paper towels. If using fully cooked bacon, warm in a skillet for 1–2 minutes per side or microwave 15–20 seconds on a paper towel-lined plate. If serving sausage links: heat a skillet over medium and add 1 tsp oil if needed. Cook links 8–10 minutes, turning often, until browned and internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). If using fresh fruit: wash and prepare 80 g (roughly 1/2 cup) of berries or slice an apple/banana into child-friendly pieces; serve chilled or at room temperature.

Make the Egg

  1. 2

    Scrambled

Crack the egg into a small bowl. Add 1 tsp milk or water and a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk until combined and slightly frothy. Heat a nonstick skillet over low–medium heat and add 1/2 tsp butter or oil. When butter is melted and bubbling but not browned, pour in egg. Let set for a few seconds, then gently push cooked edges toward the center with a spatula, allowing uncooked egg to flow out. Continue folding until softly set but still moist, about 1–2 minutes. Remove immediately to avoid overcooking.

  2. 3

    Fried (sunny-side or over-easy)

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low and add 1 tsp butter or oil. When hot, crack the egg gently into the pan. For sunny-side-up: cook until whites are set and yolk is still runny, about 2–3 minutes. For over-easy: once whites are set, carefully flip the egg and cook 15–30 seconds more for a runny yolk. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper and remove from the pan.

Toast & Assembly

  1. 4

While egg and proteins cook, toast 1 slice of bread to desired doneness (toaster or oven). Spread 1 tsp butter or preferred spread on the hot toast. Plate the toast alongside the cooked egg and your chosen two items (2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links, or 80 g fresh fruit). Let cool briefly before serving to children.

Safety & Serving Notes

  1. 5

Ensure sausage reaches a safe internal temperature if using raw (160°F / 71°C). Cut food into small, age-appropriate pieces for young children to reduce choking risk. Serve warm but not hot.
