Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass (optional)

Place a coupe or chilled cocktail glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold.

2

Measure and add to shaker

Combine 2 oz gin, 0.75 oz freshly squeezed lime juice, and 0.75 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.

3

Add ice and shake

Add 6 large ice cubes to the shaker. Seal and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds (about 15–20 shakes) until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty and well chilled.

4

Prepare serving glass

If you used ice water to chill the glass, dump it out now. Optionally add 1–3 fresh ice cubes to a rocks glass if serving on the rocks; otherwise proceed with a chilled coupe or martini glass for a straight-up serving.

5

Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail (use the shaker strainer and a fine mesh strainer if available) into the prepared glass to remove ice shards and any pulp from the lime juice.

6

Garnish

Express the oils of a lime twist over the surface of the cocktail or float a lime wheel on top. Serve immediately.
