Wine Bottle

Optional Pairings

Method

Preparation

1

Chill to serving temperature

If the bottle has been stored at cellar temperature, chill it briefly in the refrigerator for 15–30 minutes to bring the wine to an ideal serving temperature of about 60–65°F (15–18°C). Do not over-chill; too cold will mute flavors.

2

Open the bottle

Using a waiter's corkscrew or wing corkscrew, carefully remove the foil and then the cork. Wipe the bottle rim with a clean cloth to remove any cork particles or dust.

3

Pour the wine slowly into a decanter, holding the bottle over a light so you can see when sediment (if any) approaches the neck. Decant for 30–60 minutes to allow the wine to breathe and open up aromas and flavors. For immediate drinking, a 15–30 minute rest in the opened bottle is sufficient.

Serving

4

Pour

Pour 5–6 oz (150–180 ml) into large-bowled red wine glasses to allow aromas to concentrate. Fill glasses to about one-third full to leave headspace for swirling.

5

Swirl and smell

Gently swirl the wine in the glass to aerate further and evaluate the aroma. Note black cherry, plum, cassis, dark chocolate, and subtle spice notes common to Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon.

6

Taste

Take a small sip, let it coat your palate, and note structure: mid- to full-body, balanced tannins, oak-derived vanilla and spice, and a lingering finish. Allow the wine to warm slightly in the glass if it tastes closed at first; flavors will expand over 20–30 minutes.

7

Store leftover

If you have leftover wine, reseal with a wine stopper and refrigerate upright. Consume within 2–4 days for best flavor; heavier reds like this will keep structure longer than lighter wines.

Pairing (optional)

8

Prepare cheese and charcuterie

Arrange aged cheese (cut into slices or wedges), charcuterie, and crackers or slices of crusty bread on a board. Let cheeses come to room temperature (~20 minutes) before serving to maximize flavor.

9

Serve chocolate

Break dark chocolate into small pieces and offer as a finishing bite; the wine's dark fruit and cocoa notes pair well with 70% cacao chocolate.
