Method

Shrimp

1

Prepare shrimp

If shrimp are frozen, thaw completely in the refrigerator overnight or under cold running water in a sealed bag for 10–15 minutes. Pat shrimp dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture — this helps them sear and prevents steaming.

2

Season

Place shrimp in a medium bowl. Add kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Drizzle olive oil over the shrimp and toss until evenly coated.

3

Cook

Heat a large skillet (nonstick or stainless) over medium-high heat until hot. Add the oiled, seasoned shrimp in a single layer, being careful not to crowd the pan (cook in two batches if necessary). Cook shrimp 1.5–2 minutes on the first side without moving until the underside is pink and beginning to brown. Flip and cook another 1–2 minutes until opaque throughout and firm to the touch. Total cook time depends on size — do not overcook to avoid rubbery texture.

4

Finish

If using, add the butter to the pan and let it melt, spooning it over the shrimp for 15–30 seconds. Remove pan from heat and squeeze the fresh lemon juice over the shrimp. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and give a quick toss to combine.

5

Serve

Transfer shrimp to the dish you are adding them to (pasta, salad, grain bowl, tacos, etc.) while still hot. If adding to a sauced dish, fold shrimp in gently to coat. Adjust seasoning to taste before serving.
