Preparation Steps

1

Rinse the Cranberries

Place the fresh cranberries in a colander and rinse them under cold water to remove any impurities. Discard any soft or damaged berries.

2

Prepare the Cooking Liquid

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the water, granulated sugar, and fresh orange juice. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.

3

Add Cranberries

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, add the rinsed cranberries to the saucepan.

4

Add Orange Zest and Spices

Add the orange zest to the saucepan. If using, add the cinnamon stick and nutmeg at this stage as well.

5

Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens slightly.

6

Add Optional Ingredients

If desired, stir in the chopped walnuts after removing the saucepan from heat.

7

Cool and Store

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool. Transfer to a serving dish or airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use.
