Espresso / Strong Coffee

Method

Espresso / Strong Coffee

1

Brew espresso

Pull two shots of espresso (about 60 ml total). If you don't have an espresso machine, brew 60–90 ml of very strong coffee using a Moka pot, Aeropress, or concentrated pour-over.

2

If using brewed coffee and you want a stronger flavor, reduce water or use extra grounds so the coffee is robust and slightly concentrated.

Flavor syrup / Sweetener

3

Add the simple syrup (or 1 tablespoon flavored syrup) and the chosen flavoring (1 tsp vanilla extract or the equivalent flavored syrup) into the hot espresso. Stir for 10–15 seconds until fully dissolved and integrated.

4

If using granulated sugar instead of syrup, add the sugar to the hot espresso and stir until completely dissolved.

5

For chocolate or cinnamon lattes: whisk 1/2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder and/or 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon with a splash (about 1 tbs) of the hot espresso to form a paste first, preventing lumps, then stir into the espresso.

Milk

6

Steam / Heat milk

Pour 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk into a steaming pitcher. Steam using an espresso steam wand until milk reaches about 60–65°C (140–149°F) and has a silky microfoam (about 20–30 seconds of steam). If you don't have a steamer, heat milk on the stove or in the microwave until hot but not boiling (around 60–65°C), then froth with a handheld frother or whisk to create foam.

7

If you prefer a lighter latte or use plant milk, use the alternative milk listed and follow the same heating/frothing process; some plant milks foam differently—shake or froth longer as needed.

Assemble Latte

8

Pour the flavored espresso into a warmed 10–12 oz (300–350 ml) mug or glass. Slowly pour the steamed milk over the espresso, holding back foam with a spoon, then spoon the remaining microfoam on top.

9

If you made a cocoa or cinnamon paste earlier, ensure it was mixed into the espresso before adding milk so the flavor is evenly distributed.

Finish & Serve

10

Taste and adjust sweetness or flavor: add more syrup (1/2 tbs) or sugar (1/2 tsp) if desired and stir gently.

11

Top with optional whipped cream (about 2 tbsp) and garnish with chocolate shavings or a light dusting of cocoa or cinnamon to taste.

12

Serve immediately while hot.
