Build the drink
Fill a double old-fashioned (rocks) glass with large ice cubes or crushed/pebble ice to the top. Pour 1 oz Campari over the ice, then pour 1 oz sweet vermouth directly into the glass.

Top and stir
Gently top the mixture with about 2 oz chilled soda water. Give the cocktail one or two gentle short stirs with a bar spoon to marry the ingredients without losing too much carbonation.

Garnish and serve
Express an orange peel over the surface to release oils (hold peel skin-side down and give it a quick twist), then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass, or hang an orange slice on the rim. Serve immediately with a short straw if desired.
