Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for several minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink is served well chilled.

  2. 2

    Measure and combine

Add 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz dry curaçao, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 1.5 oz cranberry juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (if using) into a cocktail shaker.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 6 standard ice cubes). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the shaker is very cold to the touch and the exterior is frosted.

  4. 4

    Strain

Dump the ice water from the chilled glass (if used). Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and, if available, a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and pulp for a silky texture.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a quick bend, then optionally rub the peel on the rim and drop it into the cocktail. Alternatively, float a lime wheel or set a lime twist on the rim.

  2. 6

Serve immediately while cold. Optionally provide a small stirrer if the guest prefers to adjust sweetness.
