Bagel & Spread

Method

Bagel & Spread

1

Toast the bagel

Slice the bagel in half horizontally. Place both halves in a toaster and toast to your preferred level (light golden to medium). If you prefer a warm soft bagel, warm in a 375°F / 190°C oven for 4–6 minutes instead.

2

Whip the cream cheese

In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of chilled cream cheese, 1 teaspoon of milk or half-and-half, and a pinch of salt. Using a fork or a small whisk (or a handheld mixer on low for 15–20 seconds), whip until smooth and spreadable with a light, fluffy texture. Taste and adjust salt if needed.

Jam & Fruit

3

Prepare jam and fruit

If using whole-fruit jam with large pieces, stir it briefly to loosen. Measure 2 teaspoons of jam. If using fresh fruit, rinse and dry it. Slice strawberries or banana thinly, or measure blueberries to total about 1/2 cup.

4

Assemble toppings

On each toasted bagel half, spread a generous layer of the whipped cream cheese (about half of the whipped amount per half). Spoon 1 teaspoon of jam over the cream cheese on each half, spreading slightly but leaving some swirls of jam visible. Arrange fresh fruit on top of the jam if using (evenly distribute the 1/2 cup between the two halves).

Optional Finish

5

Garnish and serve

If desired, add a small drizzle of honey (about 1 teaspoon total) over the fruit for extra sweetness, and finish with 1–2 fresh mint leaves per half. For a savory-sweet contrast, add a light twist of freshly ground black pepper. Serve immediately while the bagel is warm and the cream cheese is fluffy.
