Tequila Plata Cocktail Base
Smoky Hornitos Flair
Garnish & Finish
Method
Prep & Glass
- 1
Salt the rim
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass, then dip the rim into coarse sea salt so it adheres evenly. Set glass aside.
- 2
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice (about 1 cup) so ingredients chill well.
Mixing the Cocktail
- 3
Add blanco (plata) tequila (6 tbs), fresh lime juice (1 oz), fresh lemon juice (0.5 oz), agave syrup (0.5 oz), and orange liqueur (0.5 oz) to the shaker filled with ice.
- 4
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.
- 5
Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared salted-rim glass over fresh ice (use a fine strainer and the shaker’s strainer to remove any pulp or small ice shards).
Smoky Hornitos Finish
- 6
Gently float Hornitos (0.25 oz) over the top by pouring it slowly over the back of a bar spoon so it forms a thin layer on the surface. If you prefer a smoky edge, substitute or add mezcal (0.25 oz) in place of some Hornitos and float it the same way.
- 7
Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim or floated on top.
Serve
- 8
Serve immediately while chilled. Sip to appreciate the clean plata tequila character, bright citrus, and the subtle Hornitos/mezcal float that adds aromatic complexity.
