Milk Preparation
Warm or Flavored Milk (optional finishing)
Method
Milk Preparation
Measure
Pour 4 cups of whole milk (or your preferred milk: skim, 2%, almond, oat, etc.) into a clean measuring cup or jug.
Season or sweeten (optional)
If desired, add 1 tablespoon sweetener (sugar, honey, or maple syrup), 1/8 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp vanilla extract. Stir or whisk until dissolved. These additions enhance flavor but are optional for plain milk.
Serve cold
For cold milk, chill the prepared milk in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or serve immediately over ice. Stir briefly before serving.
Warm or Flavored Milk (optional finishing)
Warm gently
Pour the milk mixture into a small saucepan. Warm over low to medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until steam rises and small bubbles form at the edges (do not boil). Heating should take about 5–7 minutes depending on quantity and stove. Remove from heat.
Make chocolate milk (optional)
If making chocolate milk, dissolve 1 tablespoon cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon sweetener in 1 tablespoon hot water to make a smooth paste. Stir the paste into the milk while warming or after removing from heat until fully incorporated.
Serve warm
Ladle the warm milk into cups. Taste and adjust sweetness or vanilla if needed. Serve immediately.
