Maple Bourbon Smash cocktail

Method

Maple Bourbon Smash cocktail

1

Combine and shake

Add 2 oz Bulleit Bourbon, 0.5 oz pure maple syrup, 0.5 oz fresh orange juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice (large cubes) about three-quarters full.

2

Shake

Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted. This both chills and slightly dilutes the mixture for balance.

3

Prepare glass

Fill a rocks glass with crushed ice (or finely crushed/smashed ice) and set aside.

4

Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail over the crushed ice in the prepared rocks glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove any small ice shards and pulp.

5

Finish and garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm twist, then rim the glass with the peel and drop it in. Add 1 Luxardo cherry on a pick or drop it into the glass. Optionally add one additional dash of Angostura bitters on top for aroma.

6

Serve immediately with a short stirring implement or straw for the guest to gently combine as desired. Recommend serving chilled; the crushed ice will gradually mellow the drink.
