Sales Tax Calculation
Method
Calculate Sales Tax
Step 1: Gather Information
Determine the purchase amount for which the sales tax needs to be calculated. For this example, we will use $100.
Step 2: Convert Sales Tax Rate to Decimal
Convert the sales tax rate from percentage to decimal form by dividing by 100. For a sales tax rate of 10.25%, the decimal is 0.1025.
Step 3: Calculate Sales Tax
Multiply the purchase amount by the sales tax rate in decimal form. Use the formula: Sales Tax = Purchase Amount x Sales Tax Rate. For example: Sales Tax = $100 x 0.1025 = $10.25.
Step 4: Calculate Total Amount
Add the sales tax to the original purchase amount to find the total amount due. Total Amount = Purchase Amount + Sales Tax. For this example, it will be $100 + $10.25 = $110.25.
