Build the drink
Fill a rocks glass (old-fashioned glass) about three-quarters full with cubed ice.
Add bitters and vermouth
Pour 1 oz Campari over the ice, then add 1 oz sweet vermouth.
Top with soda
Gently top with about 2 oz chilled soda water. Pour slowly over the back of a spoon if you want to preserve a slight layering; otherwise pour directly.
Stir
Give the drink 1 gentle, 5–8 second stir with a bar spoon to integrate without over-diluting.
Garnish and serve
Express the oils of an orange twist over the glass or place an orange slice on the rim as a garnish. Serve immediately.
