Method
Lemonade Base
Juice lemons
Roll lemons firmly on the counter to loosen juices. Cut and juice until you have 1 cup of fresh lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons depending on size). Strain through a fine mesh if you prefer no pulp.
Mix base
In a pitcher, combine the 1 cup fresh lemon juice, 3 tablespoons simple syrup, and 1 cup cold water. Stir until the simple syrup is fully incorporated. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding up to 1 additional tablespoon simple syrup if you prefer sweeter lemonade.
Add ice
Add 2 cups of ice to the pitcher and stir briefly to chill the mixture. This also slightly dilutes the mixture to a balanced sweet-sour profile.
Soda & Finish
Assemble Magic effect
Pour the chilled lemonade base into individual serving glasses filled with ice, filling each glass about two-thirds full. For each serving (recipe yields about 2 servings), pour 1/2 cup lemonade base per glass, leaving space for soda and the blueberry syrup.
Add blueberry syrup
Gently drizzle 1 tablespoon blueberry syrup into each glass over the back of a spoon or along the inside of the glass so it sinks slightly and creates a layered 'island' effect. The blueberry syrup will gradually swirl into the lemonade producing the blue-violet hue.
Garnish and serve
Garnish each glass with 6 fresh blueberries, a lemon slice on the rim, and a mint sprig if desired. Serve immediately with a straw so the drinker can watch and mix the 'magic' color change.
