Ingredients

Slow Drip Component (Cold-Drip Tea or Coffee)

Equipment/Optional

Preparation

Slow Drip Component (Cold-Drip Tea or Coffee)

1. Prepare concentrate (if you already have cold brew, skip)

Measure 50 g of coffee grounds or loose black tea and place in the cold-drip chamber or a jar for cold-brew. If using a slow-drip tower, load the grounds/tea into the central chamber and pour 500 ml of cold water into the top reservoir. Set drip to about 1 drip every 1–2 seconds; extraction will take several hours (6–12 hours). If using a jar, steep grounds/tea in 500 ml cold water in the refrigerator for 12–18 hours and then filter to make a concentrate. You only need roughly 0.5 oz concentrate per cocktail.

2. Once the concentrate is ready, store chilled. For immediate service, chill the concentrate thoroughly; if using a slow-drip tower you can drip directly over an ice-filled carafe and collect the cold brew.

Cocktail Assembly

3. Build the drink

Place a large ice cube in a rocks glass.

4. Using a jigger, pour 2 oz bourbon or rye over the ice.

5. Add 0.25 oz simple syrup into the glass.

6. Add 3 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters directly into the glass.

7. Add slow-drip component

Slowly add 0.5 oz of the cold-brew concentrate (coffee or black tea) to the glass. Pour gently down the side of the glass or over the back of a bar spoon so it layers slightly and integrates gradually, producing a subtle 'slow-drip' flavor effect.

8. Stir gently with a bar spoon for about 10–15 seconds to marry the ingredients while preserving some of the layered texture. Adjust stirring to preference — more stirring yields a more uniform flavor, less stirring preserves a distinct coffee/tea layer.

9. Garnish and finish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm squeeze to release the oils. Run the peel around the rim, then drop it into the glass. Optionally, add a Luxardo cherry on a pick.

10. Serve immediately with a short straw or without. Encourage sipping slowly to appreciate the evolving combination of whiskey and the slow-drip component.

Equipment/Notes

11. If you plan to make several Slow Drip Old Fashioneds, prepare a larger batch of cold-brew concentrate and store it refrigerated for up to 5 days. Adjust concentrate amount per cocktail to taste; 0.5 oz gives a subtle note, 0.75–1 oz will be more pronounced.

12. For a sweeter profile, increase simple syrup to 0.5 oz. For a drier, more bitter profile, omit orange bitters or use less simple syrup.
