Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a chilled martini/coupe glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the finished drink stays cold.

2

Combine ingredients

Fill a cocktail shaker with the measured ice (about 1 cup or enough to nearly fill the shaker). Pour 2 oz vodka, 1 oz triple sec, 1 oz cranberry juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup (if using) into the shaker.

3

Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes cold and slightly frosty. This both chills and dilutes the cocktail properly.

4

Strain & serve

Discard the ice or water from the chilled glass. Strain the cocktail through a fine strainer or the shaker strainer into the chilled martini/coupe glass to remove small ice shards and any pulp.

5

Garnish

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist over the glass and pinching so the oils spray onto the surface; then drop it in or perch a lemon wheel on the rim.

6

Taste & adjust

Taste the cocktail briefly; if it's too tart, add a touch more simple syrup (about 0.25 oz) next time. If you prefer fruitier cranberry presence, increase cranberry juice by 0.25–0.5 oz on future pours.
