Method
Prepare components
- 1
- 2
Toast bread
Spread a light layer of butter (optional) on one side of each bread slice. Toast bread in a skillet over medium heat or in a toaster until golden and crisp, about 2–3 minutes per side in a skillet or until desired color in a toaster. Place toasted slices buttered-side down on a work surface.
- 3
- 4
Prepare lettuce
Rinse and pat the lettuce leaves dry. Trim any tough stems so leaves lie flat on the sandwich.
Assemble sandwiches
- 5
Spread about 1 tsp mayonnaise evenly on one side of four toasted bread slices (these will be the interior and top slices). Spread 1 tsp mayonnaise on the remaining two slices (these will be the bottoms).
- 6
On the first bottom slice, place two slices of turkey in a single layer, slightly overlapping. Add two bacon strips on top of the turkey. Add one lettuce leaf. Season lightly with a pinch of black pepper.
- 7
Top this layer with a second toasted slice of bread (mayonnaise side down). On this middle slice, spread 1 tsp mayonnaise, then add another two slices of turkey, two bacon strips, tomato slices (2–3 slices, overlapping), and another lettuce leaf. If using cheese or avocado, place them on this layer now.
- 8
Place the final slice of toasted bread (mayonnaise side down) on top and press gently to compact the sandwich.
- 9
Secure each sandwich with two toothpicks (one near each end) and cut diagonally into halves to create classic club triangles. Serve with dill pickle spears on the side.
Finishing & serving
- 10
Taste one half and add additional mayonnaise, salt, or pepper if desired. Serve immediately while bacon is still slightly warm for best texture. Store any leftover components (turkey, bacon, toasted bread) separately in airtight containers and assemble within 24 hours to avoid soggy bread.
