Method

Tea Base

  1. 1

    Heat water

Bring 500 ml water to just under boiling — about 80–85°C (175–185°F). If you don't have a thermometer, heat until small bubbles form but before a rolling boil.

  2. 2

    Steep tea

Place 2 tsp jasmine green tea leaves (or 2 tea bags) in a teapot or heatproof container. Pour the hot water over the leaves and let steep for 2.5–3 minutes for a bright, floral cup. Avoid steeping longer than 3.5 minutes to prevent bitterness.

  3. 3

    Strain

Strain the leaves (or remove tea bags) and transfer the brewed tea to a heatproof container. Let it cool to warm, then place in the refrigerator or an ice bath to chill quickly — about 15–20 minutes to reach cold temperature.

Sweetener

  1. 4

    Make sweetener

If using granulated sugar, stir 2 tablespoons sugar into 2 tablespoons hot water until fully dissolved to make a simple sugar syrup. If using pre-made simple syrup, skip this step. Adjust sweetness to taste; jasmine green milk tea is typically lightly sweetened.

  2. 5

    Combine with tea

Once the brewed tea is chilled, stir in the prepared sugar syrup until fully incorporated and taste. Adjust sweetness by adding more syrup or water as needed.

Milk & Finishing

  1. 6

    Prepare milk

If you prefer a frothy top, gently froth 250 ml milk (or the milk of your choice) with a handheld frother or by shaking vigorously in a tightly sealed jar for 20–30 seconds. Optionally stir in 1 tsp vanilla extract and a pinch (1/4 tsp) of salt to enhance flavor.

  2. 7

    Assemble drink

Fill a tall glass with about 1 cup of ice. Pour 300–350 ml of the sweetened chilled jasmine tea over the ice, leaving room for milk (adjust proportions to taste). Slowly pour 100–120 ml of the prepared milk over the tea to create a layered effect, or stir to combine for a uniform drink.

  3. 8

    Serve

Garnish optionally with a few jasmine petals or a light dusting of matcha powder. Serve immediately with a straw. If desired, add boba/tapioca pearls (not included in ingredients) prepared separately.
