Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
Chill glass
Optional: Place a copper mug or highball glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before making the cocktail to keep it extra cold.
Prepare lime
Roll the lime on the countertop firmly with the palm of your hand to loosen juices, then cut one lime wedge or wheel. Juice enough lime to yield 1/2 oz (about half a standard lime).
Build the cocktail
Fill the chilled copper mug or highball glass with ice cubes until nearly full.
Add spirits and juice
Pour 2 oz vodka over the ice, then add 1/2 oz fresh lime juice.
Top with ginger beer
Slowly top the cocktail with 4 oz cold ginger beer, pouring gently to preserve carbonation. Stir once gently with a bar spoon (1–2 slow strokes) to combine—avoid over-stirring.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with the lime wedge or wheel on the rim and, if using, a sprig of fresh mint tucked beside the lime. Serve immediately with a straw if desired.
