Method
Cocktail
- 1
Combine and stir
Add 2 oz rye whiskey, 0.75 oz Dolin Rouge, 0.25 oz Vermouth Clockwork Orange, 2 dashes orange bitters and 1 dash Angostura bitters to a mixing glass filled with large cubed ice. Stir briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full turns) until the mixture is well chilled, slightly diluted and visually silky.
- 2
Prepare glass
Strain the chilled cocktail into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass (or an Old Fashioned glass if preferred) using a julep or Hawthorne strainer to catch ice shards.
Garnish & Finish
- 3
Express the orange oil
Take a large piece of orange peel (avoid too much pith). Hold it with the outer skin facing down about 2–3 inches above the glass and firmly twist/express the peel to spray the citrus oils over the surface of the cocktail. Then run the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink.
- 4
Add cherry
Skewer or drop one Luxardo or brandied cherry into the drink as a finishing touch.
