Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or old-fashioned glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Ezra Brooks bourbon, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 1 oz fresh orange juice, 0.75 oz cranberry juice, and 0.5 tsp pure maple syrup. If using, add 1 dash Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker three-quarters full with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the exterior of the shaker becomes very cold and slightly frosty.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

Discard the ice water from the chilled glass (if used) and strain any residual water. Optionally, add a large ice cube to an old-fashioned glass if you prefer the drink on the rocks; otherwise use the chilled coupe/rocks glass neat.

  5. 5

    Strain

Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the chilled glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp from the juices.

  6. 6

    Garnish and serve

Express the oils from an orange twist over the drink and drop it in, or float a lemon wheel on top. Serve immediately.
