Method
Prepare Fruit & Glasses
Macerate strawberries
Place the hulled and quartered strawberries into a medium bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of the simple syrup and gently muddle with a wooden spoon or muddler until the berries release some juice but still retain texture (about 30 seconds). Set aside to macerate for 5–10 minutes.
Optional: sugar rim
If you want a sugared rim, rub a lemon wedge around the rim of four serving glasses. Pour the 2 tsp granulated sugar onto a small plate and dip the rims into the sugar to coat. Set glasses aside.
Mix Cocktail Base
In a large pitcher or mixing jug, combine the sweet red wine (2 cups), vodka (1 cup), orange liqueur (1/4 cup), fresh lemon juice (2 tbsp), and remaining 1 tablespoon simple syrup. Stir gently to integrate.
Add the macerated strawberries (including any juices) to the pitcher. Stir again to distribute fruit evenly.
Add the thin orange slices to the pitcher. If you prefer a stronger fruit flavor, lightly press the orange slices against the side of the pitcher to release some oils, but avoid over-pressing to prevent bitterness.
Chill & Serve
Add 2 cups of ice to the pitcher to chill the mixture quickly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 20–30 minutes to let flavors meld. For a quicker serving, chill for 10 minutes and serve over additional ice.
When ready to serve, fill each prepared glass with about 1/2 cup ice (or desired amount). Pour the Sweet Red cocktail into glasses, dividing evenly (recipe yields approximately 4 servings). Leave some fruit in the pitcher and distribute a few strawberry quarters and an orange slice into each glass.
Top each glass with a splash (about 1–2 tbsp) of club soda or sparkling water if you prefer a lighter, fizzy drink. Gently stir once to combine.
Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and 2 fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately.
