Frituritas de Malanga Ingredients
Method
Frituritas de Malanga Directions
Prepare the Malanga
Peel the malanga and cut it into small pieces. Rinse under cold water to remove any dirt.
Boil the Malanga
In a pot, add the malanga pieces and cover them with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 20 minutes or until tender. Drain and let cool slightly.
Mash the Malanga
Once the malanga has cooled, mash it in a large bowl until smooth.
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
Mix Ingredients
Add the dry ingredients to the mashed malanga. Beat the egg in a small bowl and add it, along with the water, to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
Heat Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Frituritas
Using a tablespoon, drop spoonfuls of the malanga mixture into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on each side, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Drain and Serve
Remove the frituritas from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
