In a large pitcher (1.5–2 liter capacity), pour the entire bottle (750 ml) of red wine. Add 90 ml sweet Italian vermouth and 60 ml Luxardo Maraschino liqueur. Gently stir to combine.

Combine alcohol

Taste the base mixture—it should be fruity and slightly sweet with a noticeable cherry note from the Luxardo. Adjust sweetness with simple syrup if desired (add in small increments, 15 ml at a time).

Hull and quarter the strawberries if using. Halve any large cherries. Place 2 cups of mixed berries and one thinly sliced orange into the pitcher. Gently muddle the fruit with a wooden spoon or muddler 6–8 times—just enough to release juices but not to puree.

Prepare fruit

Add 60 ml simple syrup to the pitcher (or less if you prefer drier). Stir gently to combine the fruit, wine and sweetener. Let the mixture macerate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably 3–6 hours or overnight for deeper flavor infusion.

When ready to serve, fill a large ice-filled punch bowl or individual glasses with ice. Pour the sangria through a slotted spoon into glasses or bowl to retain most of the fruit in the pitcher, or include fruit in each glass per preference.

Chill and serve

If you want a light effervescence, add about 300 ml club soda to the pitcher just before serving and stir gently. Adjust fizz to taste.

Garnish each glass with a Luxardo cherry (or fresh cherry) and a mint sprig. Serve with extra fruit from the pitcher on the side.

Leftover sangria will keep covered in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours; if still left, add fresh ice and a splash of soda before serving again.
