Carmine's Negroni (per cocktail)

Method

Carmine's Negroni (build & serve)

1

Chill glass

Place a rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice and cold water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold when served.

2

Measure spirits

Using a jigger, measure 1 oz Bombay Dry Gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz Carpano Antica Vermouth into a mixing glass.

3

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently but steadily with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until the mixture is well chilled, slightly diluted, and slightly viscous. The mixing glass should frost on the outside.

4

Prepare serving glass

If you chilled the rocks glass with ice and water, discard the ice water and add 1–2 fresh large ice cubes or a single large cube to the glass.

5

Strain

Using a strainer, pour the stirred cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the fresh ice.

6

Express and garnish

Take an orange peel and hold it skin-side down over the drink. Give it a firm twist to express the citrus oils over the surface, then run the peel's outer edge around the glass rim and drop the twist into the cocktail as garnish.

7

Serve

Present the Negroni immediately. Serve with a small stirrer or coaster. Optional: provide an extra orange twist on the side.

Cleanup & notes

8

Rinse and dry tools. Leftover vermouth should be refrigerated and used within a month for best flavor. Adjust gin/vermouth/Campari ratio to taste (classic is 1:1:1).
