Coffee Base
If you like a touch of sweetness, stir 1 tsp brown sugar into the hot coffee until dissolved.
Add 1.5 oz amaretto liqueur to the hot coffee and stir gently to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness or amaretto amount as desired.
Whipped Cream Topping
Chill a small mixing bowl and whisk (or the beaters) in the fridge for 5–10 minutes if possible — cold implements help the cream whip better.
Whisk by hand briskly or use an electric mixer on medium-high for about 1–2 minutes until soft peaks form. You want a light, billowy whipped cream that will float on the hot coffee.
Spoon or gently dollop the whipped cream on top of the amaretto coffee so it rests on the surface rather than sinking in.
Garnish
Lightly crumble or chop one amaretti cookie and sprinkle over the whipped cream. Alternatively, place one whole amaretti cookie on the saucer or balanced on the rim.
Finish with a light dusting of grated dark chocolate or cocoa powder (about 1 tsp) over the whipped cream for aroma and contrast.
Serve immediately while the coffee is hot and the whipped cream is chilled. Provide a small spoon so the guest can stir in the cream as desired.
