Preparation Instructions
Prepare the Bread
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Rub each slice of thick bread with a clove of garlic. Lay the slices on a baking sheet.
Layer the Mozzarella
Slice the fresh mozzarella cheese and layer it on half of the garlic-rubbed bread slices. Top with the remaining bread slices to create sandwiches.
Toast the Sandwiches
Place the baking sheet in the oven and toast for about 10-12 minutes, or until the bread is golden and the cheese has melted.
Make the Sauce
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the white wine, capers, and anchovies. Stir for about 3-5 minutes until the anchovies dissolve and the sauce is well combined.
Finish the Dish
Remove the sandwiches from the oven. Drizzle the lemon juice over the toasted sandwiches and pour the caper and anchovy sauce on top. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Serve
Slice the sandwiches into halves or quarters and serve hot.
