Cake Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well combined.
Incorporate Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is well mixed. The batter will be thin.
Add Chocolate Chips and Coconut
Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and shredded coconut.
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cakes
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Whipped Cream Topping
Prepare Whipped Cream
In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
Assemble the Cake
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream on top, then place the second cake layer on top.
Top and Drizzle
Spread remaining whipped cream on top of the cake and drizzle with chocolate sauce.
