Method

Brewed Coffee

1

Measure beans

Measure 10 g (about 0.06 cups) of fresh whole coffee beans per 1 cup (240 ml) of water. Adjust quantity for stronger or weaker coffee: increase by 1–2 g for stronger, decrease for weaker.

2

Grind beans

Grind the beans to a medium grind (similar to granulated sugar) for drip or pour-over; use a coarser grind for French press, or finer for espresso. Grind immediately before brewing for best flavor.

3

Heat water

Heat 1 cup (240 ml) of filtered water to 92–96°C (195–205°F). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 30 seconds.

4

Bloom (for pour-over or drip)

If using a pour-over or paper filter method: place the ground coffee in the filter, pour just enough hot water to saturate the grounds (about twice the weight of the coffee) and let bloom for 30–45 seconds to release trapped CO2.

5

Brew

Continue pouring water over grounds in a steady spiral for pour-over until you reach 1 cup (240 ml) total. For drip coffee maker, start the machine and let it complete its cycle. For French press: pour the hot water over grounds, stir gently, place the lid with plunger up, and steep 4 minutes before plunging slowly.

6

Serve

Immediately pour the brewed coffee into a pre-warmed cup to preserve temperature and flavor. Freshly brewed coffee is best enjoyed within 20 minutes.

Optional additions

7

Add 2 tablespoons of milk or cream to taste. Warm the milk separately if you prefer a hotter drink or steamed texture.

8

Stir in 1 teaspoon sugar or other sweetener until dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.

9

Add 1 teaspoon flavored syrup for a flavored coffee; stir to combine.

10

Add a pinch of salt to cut any bitterness if desired.
