Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Pat the filet mignon dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and fresh rosemary. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to ensure even cooking.

Cooking

  1. 2

    Sear the Steak

Heat the olive oil in a heavy skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the filet mignon in the pan.

  2. 3

    Cook to Desired Doneness

Sear the filet mignon for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it. Flip the steak and add the butter to the pan. Continue cooking for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, basting the steak with the melted butter using a spoon.

  3. 4

    Rest and Serve

Once cooked to your liking, remove the filet mignon from the pan and allow it to rest on a cutting board for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with your favorite sides.
